Harvest Scheduling

Harvest Scheduling
The choices of where, when, and what stands to harvest are among the most important decisions a resource manager can make. Greenup requirements, fish and wildlife habitat protection, maximum and average harvest block size requirements, and watershed management issues have all made the scheduling of harvest units more difficult.

The professionals at ORM use many different tools to help them design harvest schedules which are operationally feasible, meet all regulatory requirements, and satisfy ownership objectives. We use both optimization and simulation methods including simulated annealing, binary search, and linear programming.

Harvest schedules are normally made at the stand level so they can be spatially explicit and practical to implement.

ORM has experience in developing harvest schedules for properties managed on a sustainable basis under both Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) certification requirements.
